If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, your dentist will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other dental treatment. But when there's too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, it may need to be extracted. 

When Should You Extract A Tooth?

You might need to have a tooth removed if you have:

• A tooth that has not enough root structure remaining to rebuild

• Crowded teeth (ie. For orthodontics).

• Problems with wisdom teeth

• Severe gum disease

• Deep infection in a tooth that is beyond repair

WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL

Wisdom teeth generally start to become a problem between the ages of 17 and 25. It is also common for wisdom teeth to not erupt at all. 

It can often cause issues due to the lack of space in the mouth for the teeth to erupt, it can come through at an angle or only partially through the gum accompanied with symptoms as following:

• Persistent pain and discomfort

• Repeated infection or tooth decay caused by bits of food trapped where regular brushing and flossing is ineffective or impossible

• Stiffness in jaw and swollen gum

• Cysts and cavities near or around the tooth or other jaw problems

• Sinus issues and eating difficulty

You may need to consider removing the wisdom teeth when either they have already become impacted or the wisdom teeth could potentially become problematic if not extracted.

Removing a wisdom tooth is usually a safe and effective way to prevent and resolve these problems.
